HISTORY

Forest Lodge on High Lake was built in 1938. Local craftsmen Andy Ohlsson and Adolph Kosiroski constructed the log lodge. Additional cottages were subsequently built over the next 20 years. Throughout the years, 1943 to 1971 Forest Lodge was an American plan resort ran by Dick an Ottilie Streit.

The Streits were personable people with high standards for hospitality. These qualities, together with Ottilies marvelous cooking, helped them build their reputation. Folks drove up to 100 miles for the privilege of dining on her Sunday buffet, which filled a 30-foot table with delectable entrees and deserts. Families came for the entire summer and vacationed in their cozy cottages. The lodge was used to serve breakfast, evening dinner and held evening entertainment. The recreation center near the beach and boat launch served lunch. Many celebrations including weddings were held over the years at Forest Lodge.

In 1981 the lodge and cottages were sold into individual properties. Bob and Johana Lund purchased the Lodge in 1981 and sold to Jim and Krista Mendyke in 2005.

It is our honor to provide you with the same high standards of hospitality the Streets provided their guests all those years ago. Many of the original historic Old Hickory tables and chairs are still in use at the lodge. Its current atmosphere is that of a sophisticated nostalgic lodge reminiscent of years gone by with modern comforts for todays travelers.
